Atheists vs. Theology

"Nature herself has imprinted on the minds of all the idea of God."
-Cicero

I was talking to J. today, as well as Lucy. For those of you who don't know, J. is my resident Christian advocate, and Lucy, at times, has quite an anti-Christian stance. Anyways, it got me thinking about Christian hate. Some people just simply dislike Christians (here's looking at you, Howard). Be it their constant evangelistic attempts, or their ideals, which at times, through strange Biblical interpretations, may be lacking, many Christians are hated on. On the opposite side, extreme Christians do hate as well: the burning of the pink triangle comes to mind.

Why the hate?

As an agnostic, I currently believe that until after death, God cannot be proved or disproved. Everything that is explained theologically can be explained scientifically, and I will do that to the greatest of my knowledge.

The main case for God is the fact that He can produce miracles. Miracles, however, can be also defined as pseudorandom events, as can anything else that happens in the world. Everything happens because of a previous reason: a rescue because a specific person was passing at the time, an acorn falling and growing into a tree, soon to catch someone's fall from a treehouse. Whether or not this is caused by an omnipotent god can not be determined.

Another theological thing includes love, but that of which extends to everyone even to the extent of sacrificing oneself (thank you, J.). I believe this is purely scientific as well (Although it could have been caused theologically and/or pseudorandomly.) Hormones cause this love, feeding into people a conscience, but one so strong that it can cause them to sacrifice themselves for the sake of others. That action causes people to consider him a saint; though he may be, it was simply caused by the strong hormones in his brain.

Everything against theology can be simply disproved due to lack of evidence: scorn toward miracles, as well as the riddle of Epicurus (Google that) can be deciphered as God wanting to teach us a lesson. Nothing against God has solid evidence because in recent times (assuming truth in the Bible), God has not physically done anything, but rather pseudorandomly (according to this theory at least). Therefore, everything against God attacks only the mind of the believer rather than showing physical proof against Him.

So if everything against Christians is wishy-washy without evidence, and everything for Christians can be explained scientifically, God cannot be proven one way or another. So why can't we just believe what we want to for our life, and we can talk about this after we die? (Or not...)

Why can't we just all be friends?

What do you all think? Comment down there.

  1. I'd like to say that independent individuals and/or independent groups do not represent the whole of the face of Christianity and that not all Christians or people claiming to be Christian can or should be filed under one specific stereotype.

  2. But neither do individual athiests. :P
One person does a lot to change how a people are viewed. e.g. Saddam Hussein.
    So... yeah.
